M. Padmakumar Makes Bollywood Debut with Sunny Deol-Starrer ‘Suryaa’

Malayalam filmmaker M. Padmakumar, known for directing critically acclaimed films such as Joseph, is set to make his Bollywood directorial debut with Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak, starring Sunny Deol in the lead role. The makers have unveiled the film’s first-look motion poster, offering a glimpse of the actor in an intense and rugged avatar.
The film is scheduled to release worldwide in theatres on November 20, 2026, with Zee Cinemas handling its distribution. The project brings together Padmakumar’s experience in Malayalam cinema and a prominent Hindi film cast for a crime thriller centred on mystery, investigation and hidden secrets.
Sunny Deol Takes on an Intense Role
The first-look poster features Sunny Deol in a weathered, brooding appearance, hinting at a character grappling with a troubled past and difficult circumstances. The title, Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak, suggests a journey involving endings, beginnings and the pursuit of truth.
The film also features Ravi Kishan, Pragya Jaiswal, Tanushree Chakraborty, Jisshu Sengupta, Tinnu Anand, Manish Wadhwa, Rohit Tiwari and Anoop Trivedi in significant roles. The makers have expressed confidence that Sunny Deol’s performance will be among the notable highlights of the film.
Hindi Adaptation of Malayalam Thriller ‘Joseph’
Suryaa is a Hindi adaptation of the 2018 Malayalam thriller Joseph, which starred Joju George in the lead role. The original film received widespread critical appreciation for its gripping narrative and the lead actor’s performance.
The story of Joseph follows a retired police officer known for his investigative abilities who becomes involved in a complex criminal case following the death of his former wife. As the investigation unfolds, he encounters disturbing revelations connected to a larger criminal network.
The original film was written by Shahi Kabir, who has also penned the story for Suryaa. His other notable writing credits include Nayattu and Officer on Duty. The Hindi adaptation is expected to bring the central premise of the Malayalam thriller to a wider audience while featuring Sunny Deol in the lead role.
Strong Technical Team Behind the Film
The film is presented by Kamal Mukut under the MM Movies banner. Deepak Mukut, Hemmant Mukut and Lokesh Mukut are associated with its production.
Cinematography is handled by Santosh Thundiyil, while Ballu Saluja is responsible for editing. The screenplay has been co-written by Karan Razdan, Neeraj Pathak and Mayank Sharma. The music is composed by Uttam Singh and Ranjin Raj, with Uttam Singh also contributing the background score.
